My first buzz band pick of 2008 is MGMT, a steller space rock duo from Brooklyn NY by way of Connecticut.
These two lads have an exciting new sound, and moves me like The Rapture, Arcade Fire and Shins did over the last few years. Their debut full length record, Oracular Spectacular will likely be one of my favorite records of the year. Their first track (Time To Pretend) is a masterpiece psych-pop-anthem. They mix the sounds of Beach Boys, Flaming Lips, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Ween, etc. Crazy stew, but catchy songs.
